Hamas Condemns London's "Double Standards" On Terrorism
GAZA CITY, March 3 (News Agencies) - The Palestinian resisyance movement Hamas Friday condemned the "double standards" operated by Britain, following London's ban on 21 organizations it has classed as "terrorist."
"Great Britain is closing its eyes to terrorism and the repression of our people by the Israeli authorities, while it strangely does not hesitate to classify our legitimate struggle as terrorist action," Hamas said in a statement released in Gaza City.
"We are conducting a struggle for freedom from Israeli occupation. Nobody has the right to class that right as terrorism," said Hamas, the Islamist movement opposed to the 1993 Oslo peace accords between Israel and the Palestinians.
Hamas, which has been responsible for several attacks in Israel, also accuses Britain of "giving in to pressure from the United States and the Zionists, who continue to block the aspirations of peoples towards freedom and self-determination."
The new British law on terrorism lists the organizations to be banned, most of which are viewed as enemies of the United States and Israel.
Hamas and the Islamic Jihad in Palestine are on the list of organizations banned by London.
