Bosnian Serb Police Arrest Suspect in Killing of Muslim Refugee

SARAJEVO, Nov 20 (News Agencies) - Bosnian Serb police have arrested a Serb suspected of murdering a 16-year-old Muslim girl, shot dead last July after returning to her home in a Serb-run village, the United Nations said Tuesday.

"Detention was conducted based on preliminary results obtained from a ballistic analysis laboratory in France which has provisionally identified the weapon used during the murder," Stefo Lehmann said Tuesday.

Lehmann, a spokesman for the United Nations in Bosnia, said the U.N.'s international police here supervised the arrest, which took place on Monday.

He refused to disclose the name of the arrested as the investigation is continuing.

Meliha Duric was shot dead in her house in the village of Piskavci in eastern Bosnia, where she and her parents returned at the beginning of the year after years of being refugees following the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Meanwhile Bosnian police are investigating the death of another refugee, 78-year-old Seid Mutapcic, who was hacked to death last Friday in the Serb-run village of Pale, near Sarajevo.

Mutapcic returned to his house in Pale last August. Bosnian Serbs had expelled him from his house during the war.
