U.S. Document Says Al-Qaeda Not Operating in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Dec. 11 (IslamOnline) - Indonesia is not included on the U.S. State Department's list of 45 countries in which Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda group conducts business, a report says on Tuesday.
The list, in a new pamphlet titled "Terrorist Network" given out by the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta Tuesday, is part of the commemoration of the third month after the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, Antara reported.
Indonesia was previously mentioned by the foreign media as one of three ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries - besides Malaysia and the Philippines - where al-Qaeda has operations.
The U.S. said it would attack these operations or force the arrest of such operatives living in these countries. Washington has, however, this week, said it will probably not attack Malaysia.
Included on the list are countries where al-Qaeda is said to be active. They are as follows: the United States, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Britain, Ireland, Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Australia, Russia, Afghanistan, South Africa, Albania, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Eritrea.
Also included are the Philippines, India, Iran, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Egypt, Pakistan, Qatar, Somalia, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen and Jordan.
On the other hand, observers in Indonesia said the country has to have a more defined and regulated anti-Terrorism policy.
