Syrian Lawyer Splits Income With Palestinian Colleague

“This offer comes in response to the sufferings of the Palestinian brethren at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces,” said Al Khalil.

By Wahid Taga, IOL Correspondent in Syria

DAMASCUS, April 23 (IslamOnline) – Syrian lawyer Abdullah Al Khalil has offered to split his income with a Palestinian lawyer from Ramallah in the West Bank.

Al Khalil made the proposal in a letter he sent April 3 to the secretary general of the Arab lawyers’ union via the office of the lawyers’ syndicate in Syria.

In his letter, viewed by IslamOnline, Al Khalil said that he’s ready to split his salary with the first person on the Ramallah lawyers’ list whose name carries the first few letters of his name.

“This offer comes in response to the sufferings of the Palestinian brethren at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces who are trying to eliminate their presence,” said Al Khalil. “I believe this enemy understands nothing but the language of force.”

“As a simple, defenseless Arab citizen whose wife, children and himself feel this oppression, and owing to our duty towards this land, I make this offer,” he added.

Al Khalil said that he feels the Israeli bullets are directed towards his own chest, that there are many others defending the Arab nation and that “there needs be links between all lines of defense in this war.”

The Syrian lawyer went to the head of the Lawyer’s Union and asked him to help him deliver ten thousand Syrian liras ($ 200) to the Palestinian lawyer who fulfills the requirement.

Al Khalil’s move is not the first in Islamic history, which notes several instances when homes and fortunes were split. When Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) emigrated from Mecca to Medina, he urged the Ansar (Medina residents) to take up brothers from the Muhajireen (the immigrants). This practice continued until the Muhajireen were able to earn their own living.
