IslamOnline.net’s
Health & Science staff would like to congratulate the winners of the
section’s 2004 TOP 3 Awards. The section’s readers voted for their
favorite three articles chosen from a list of ten provided by the Health &
Science section staff.
The
winners of the 2004 awards – our first – are:
First
prize: Emmanuel Koro, Zimbabwe, for his article ‘AIDS:
A Threat to Africa’s Environment’.
Second
prize: Lalitha Sridhar, India, for her article ‘Beauty
With a Purpose’.
Third
prize: Charles Mkoka, Malawi, for his article ‘A
Chili a Day Keeps the Elephants Away’.
Emmanuel
Koro, when informed of the results, wrote, “Although I have won local and
international writing awards before, I feel honored to have my article selected
by the readers.”
In
a congratulatory e-mail to her winning colleagues, Lalitha Sridhar wrote, “I
am truly delighted and I am sure you share my joy. I did enjoy your
articles very much and consider it an honor to stand among you. I am
once again grateful that IOL provides space for such reporting.”
Charles
Mkoka had similarly sent an e-mail expressing his “heart-felt”
congratulations to the first two prize winners.
The
competition was devised by the Web site’s Health & Science department as a
means to express its appreciation, and that of its readers, to its writers from
around the world for the excellent work they have been doing in promoting
awareness on a variety of health, science, environment, and technology issues,
in an easy-to-read format that is still interesting for the more specialized
reader.
All
three winners will be receiving congratulatory certificates from
IslamOnline.net, in addition to $100 to the first prize winner, $85 to the
second prize winner, and $75 to the third prize winner as a small token of the
Web site’s appreciation.
