Islamists say Build Strength in Egypt Parliament
The Muslim Brotherhood won 13 parliamentary seats in the second stage of Egyptian elections despite a crackdown by authorities, reinforcing its position as the ruling party's main challenger, the Islamist group said on Monday, November 21, 2005. Police arrested about 470 activists from the officially banned Brotherhood during and ahead of voting on Sunday. Police blocked polling stations in some Brotherhood strongholds, witnesses said. The Brotherhood, banned since 1954, had more than doubled its strength in parliament in the first stage of voting.
