UN Tribunal Clears Muslim Bosnian Commander
The commander of Bosnian Muslim forces in Srebrenica, Naser Oric, has had his conviction for war crimes overturned by the UN tribunal in the Hague on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Oric was convicted of failing to prevent men under his command Between 1992 and 1993 from killing and mistreating Bosnian Serb prisoners. Many Bosnian Muslims regarded Oric as a hero and believe the decision to prosecute him was made to counter complaints by Serbs that the tribunal was biased against them.
