Rice: “Very Special” U.S. Should Maintain Military Superiority

United States
is a very special country.”

WASHINGTON,
September 26 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - The United States
should maintain its military superiority in the world and keep other
nations from challenging it because it is “a very special
country,” national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said late
Wednesday, September 26, as criticism grew over her arrogance comment
that Washington will “democratize” the Muslim world.
“The
United States
is a very special country in that when we maintain this position of
military strength that we have now, we do it in support of a balance
of power that favors freedom,” said national security adviser
Condoleezza Rice, appearing on PBS’s “The NewsHour with Jim
Lehrer” program.
She
made the comment as she defended a new
U.S.
national security strategy that was unveiled last Friday, September
20, and that lays the foundation for preemptive military strikes based
on attacking other countries for actions they ‘may’ do against the
United states
.
The
strategy also declares that
Washington
will not allow any other country to attain military superiority or
even parity with the
United States
, AFP said.
The
document has been roundly criticized at home and abroad as a claim to
U.S.
dominance in the world.
Rice
said that in its quest to maintain its current military status, the
United States
did not want to act alone and welcomed military contributions from
other “like-minded” states.
“But
if it comes to allowing another adversary to reach military parity
with the United States in the way that the Soviet Union did, no, the
United States does not intend to allow that to happen,” the national
security adviser said.
“Because
when that happens, there will not be a balance of power that favors
freedom,” she stressed. “There will be a balance of power that
keeps part of the world in tyranny the way that the
Soviet Union
did.”
Meanwhile,
criticism grew Wednesday in the Gulf over the arrogance of Rice who
said
Washington
was seeking the “democratization” of the Muslim world.
“Rice
did not bring anything new. Her president has already declared his
crusade against Islam and Muslims,” Mohammed al-Mesfer, a political
science professor at the state university in
Qatar
, told AFP.
In
an interview with the Financial Times published Monday, September 23,
Rice laid out Washington’s post-Cold War geopolitical doctrine
saying “the United States would want to be thought of as
liberators” dedicated to the “democratization or the march of
freedom in the Muslim world.”
“Rice
is under the influence of the drunkenness brought about by American
hegemony,” said Mesfer.
“The
saddest part is that Arab leaders continue to run after the White
House and beg for favors from the
U.S.
administration,” he said.
In
Kuwait
, the spokesman of the Islamic Salafist movement, Abderrazak
al-Shaiji, agreed that “Rice has revealed
U.S.
aims to combat Islam under the cover of the fight against
terrorism.”
“In
fact, since the September 11 attacks, the
U.S.
administration has been targeting Islam and Muslims,” said Shaiji,
likewise a professor at the state university in
Kuwait
.
On
Tuesday,
Qatar
’s Al-Raya newspaper editorial said “Rice has uncovered her
evident hostility toward Islam.”
“Her
remarks confirm, without any doubt, the theory of the plot being
hatched against the Muslim faith, under the cover of a war against a
handful of terrorists,” it said.
Al-Khaleej
newspaper in the
United Arab Emirates
said “Queen Condoleezza is behaving as if she was the brains running
the world, as if she can change the world and, more precisely, the
Muslim world.”
“This
old-fashioned queen is behaving as if she was superior to one billion
Muslim people and as if she was capable of deciding the fate of the
Muslim world: this is a rare case of arrogance and insolence,” it
said.
