At least 40 people are missing in border areas
of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh states in northeastern India
after being swept away by flash floods, Monday, July 5, 2004.
More than 35 villages are under water and about 35,000 people
are homeless. Scores of elephants from the Sijusha elephant
project and the Nameri game reserve were also swept away in
the floods. The River Bordikai that flows into Arunachal
Pradesh from Tibet—where a dam is reported to have
burst—and two more rivers, the Hulengi and the Satrang, have
flooded.
