Amnesty: Bhopal's Human Rights Disaster
Amnesty International reported Monday, November 29, 2004, that tens of thousands of Indian people still suffer appalling effects from the Bhopal gas leak 20 years ago. More than 20,000 people died from the disaster, which saw tons of deadly methyl isocyanate seep into the atmosphere on the night of December 2, 1984, from a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, owned by US firm Union Carbide. Amnesty International condemned the victims’ long wait for justice as a major breach of human rights.
