CAIRO (Islam Online) July 12 - The Eritrean ambassador to Egypt, Mohammed Omar Mahmoud, told reporters in Cairo that the Israeli Interior Minister visited Ethiopia last month to strike a deal with Ethiopians in order to transfer more Ethiopian Jews, known as "Flasha", to Israel.
The Eritrean diplomat speculates that Ethiopia agreed to facilitate the transfer of Jewish Ethiopians in exchange for Israeli assistance to Ethiopia during the war with Eritrea
The ambassador said that Ethiopian strength in the last war between the two nations tremendously increased, an outcome that could be explained by outside assistance. He cited a report in the Russian paper Azvestia that displayed names of Russian military and air force experts in Ethiopia during the last war, some of which remain.
Mr. Mahmoud criticized what he called "international silence" towards Ethiopian "aggression".
He pointed to statements by several Ethiopian top officials saying that Ethiopia was a superpower and that the geography of the African Horn should be re-drawn. The African Horn countries include Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Somali, and Eritrea.
"Ethiopia could forcibly occupy any country in the African Horn in few hours" the Ambassador told Egyptian reporters.
According to the ambassador, the war with Ethiopia that erupted on May 12th displaced more than 1 million Eritreans.
