Britain On Trial In Bahrain Over Death Of U.S. National

MANAMA (AFP) - A British oil consultant has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in a Bahraini court after a U.S. national was found stabbed to death, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Gulf Daily News said Richard Mechan's defense counsel on Saturday questioned witnesses who testified to the "violent nature" of the victim, Marshall Earl Emmons, a fellow resident of Saudi Arabia.

Emmons, a 31-year-old fiber optics engineer from Tucson, Arizona, was found at the poolside of a Manama housing compound on January 6. The criminal court trial, which opened in April, has been adjourned until June 7.
